WHY 100% BEESWAX?
Light, as the New Catholic Encyclopedia notes, signifies “joy, optimism, goodness, purity, beauty, festiveness, dignity and life. It is opposed to darkness, which signifies sadness, gloom, desolation, death, ignorance and error.” Light symbolizes truth, faith, wisdom, virtue, grace, divine life, charity, the ardor of prayer, sacred presence, and the beatific vision.”
When the meaning of the beeswax candle was pondered, particularly in the Middle Ages, a rich and detailed symbolism emerged. Christ had declared, “I am the light of the world” (John 9:5), and the candle’s light came to be the symbol for his presence.
The beeswax of the candle symbolizes Christ’s flesh, his sacred humanity. The wick, embedded in the center of the candle, represents his soul. The flame, as it burns down the wick, consumes the wax to give us light. It burns, expending itself, sacrificing itself, just as Christ sacrificed himself. The burning candle is aesthetically pleasing, and it gives a sweet aroma as it burns, another reminder of the presence of our Lord.

Have our candles been blessed?
No, our candles haven’t been blessed.
According to Canon Law and Catholic teachings, it is prohibited to sell blessed candles (or any blessed items) for profit due to the following reasons:
- Canon 1171 of the Code of Canon Law states: "Sacred objects, which are designated for divine worship by dedication or blessing, are to be treated reverently and are not to be employed for profane or inappropriate use even if they are owned by private persons.
- Selling blessed objects is considered simony, which the Catechism of the Catholic Church defines as "the buying or selling of spiritual things" (CCC, 2121). This is forbidden and is even a canonical crime if it involves a sacrament.
- The blessing or grace attached to an object cannot be bought or sold. When a blessed item is sold, it is considered to have lost its blessing.
- Specifically for blessed sacramentals like candles, rosaries, or crucifixes, there has been a historical prohibition on selling them. The Sacred Congregation of Indulgences & Sacred Relics explicitly prohibited the selling of rosaries and crucifixes in an 1847 decree.
- Even if a blessed item is sold, it loses its blessing upon sale, meaning the buyer would receive an unblessed object.
How can I bless my candles?
You can bring your candle to church and ask your priest to bless it. Alternatively, you can bless it at home using this simple ritual:

- Say a Prayer: Invoke God's presence with a prayer such as:
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, bless this candle at our request. By the power of the Holy Cross, bestow a heavenly blessing upon it." - Sprinkle with Holy Water: While sprinkling Holy water over the candle, say:
"May this candle dispel darkness and bring Your light into our lives." - Conclude with a Prayer: Finish with a protective prayer:
"May the light of this candle remind us of Your presence and keep us safe from all harm. Amen."
